Restart the computer, and then if that doesn't work check your internet cable-ish things. Can you open any other IM services you have like AIM or google talk? If so then it's just a problem with msn.

Oh and try opening windows messenger on your computer. Might work.

Try googling the error code. Sometimes these can be found in searches.
OK this is what u do take the error code to a search engine type error code 81000306
if its through quest and you have one care, you have to uninstall and re install the quest msn disk
wait, you can access Yahoo answers but not msn.com or microsoft.com?
Take your computer to Best Buy or some place where they can work on it for you. It sounds like it is full of too much crap. The best purchase I ever made for my computer was "Spy Sweeper" They catch things coming in before they can cause trouble. Then, of course, you need to have an anti-virus, which you probably do have, to clean up viruses once they have infiltrated.

If you are using a security server, make sure that Messenger si allowed to access.

Check the settings for advanced connection of your MSN
