How do i fix a connection problem with msn messenger(windows live messenger)?

I looked at the connections tab under options in tools and it says you are not connected to .net messenger service and says you are connected through a wireless network connection which i am. I wondered if that was the problem, me having a wireless network connection, but i'm not quite sure. Also when i try to sign in and then troubleshoot it, it says nothing is wrong but the error code is 80048412. If you possible know how to fix this i'd like the help and if you have had this problem and know exactly how to fix this please leave your email on your comment so if i need further help i can ask you. You cannot sign in to Messenger. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:



We were unable to sign you in to the Messenger at this time. Please try again later.

The following steps may help resolved your issue:



To troubleshoot the problem on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer:



1. Click Start, click Run, type control timedate.cpl, and then click OK.



2. In the Date and Time Properties dialog box, confirm that the date and time settings on the computer are correct, and then click OK.



To troubleshoot the problem on a Windows Vista-based computer:



1. Click Start, type control timedate.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.



2. In the Date and Time Properties dialog box, confirm that the date and time settings on the computer are correct, and then click OK.

The the extended error code that you are recieving is not listed above then you may want to try one of the following steps that may resolve your issue:

2. Verify the time and the date settings on the computer:

5. Make sure that the Microsoft Internet Explorer settings are configured correctly. Messenger uses the settings in Internet Explorer when it makes a connection to the Messenger service. To configure Messenger, follow these steps: a. Start Internet Explorer.



b. Make sure that Internet Explorer is not set to work offline: On the File menu, make sure that Work Offline is not selected. If Work Offline is selected, click Work Offline.



c. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.



d. In the Internet Options box, click the Content tab.



e. Under Certificates, click Clear SSL State.



f. When you receive the message that states that the SSL cache was cleared successfully, click OK.



g. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Restore Defaults.



h. Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings. Clear all the check boxes, and then click OK.



i. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.



j. Verify that you can connect to the Internet. To do this, visit the following Web site:

6. Clear the proxy settings in Messenger: a. Start Messenger.



b. On the Tools menu, click Options.



c. Click Connection, and then click Advanced Settings.



d. Delete the entries under SOCKS.



e. Click OK two times to save the settings.



7. Reregister the SSL security libraries. To reregister each file in the following list, click Start, click Run, type the command, and then click OK.



If you are using Windows Vista, click Start , type the command in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.



Note After each command runs successfully, you will receive a "DllRegisterServer succeeded" message. Wait until you receive this message before you run the next command.
