I just bought a new laptop with Windows Vista, but it won't let me install MSN messenger. And if I do install it, it will close before I have a chance to sign on. What is going on?

I dont think MSN Messenger is compatible with Windows Vista. Try installing this, which is a newer version of MSN messanger (now Windows Messanger):
