Could be a couple of reasons but, my first guess would be that you dont have your correct port open in your settings of wireless

router. Check it out and make sure that your messenger does not require a tcp port to be assigned for faster downloads. Check it out.

No, despite what the other person says, it never shows you if the person has blocked you.

When they HAVE blocked you, they simply appear as offline even if they are online.

To check if someone has blocked you, you can try downloading an MSN block checker. However, there are dangers involved in this as some block checkers collect e-mails for spam, etc. Plus, no block checker can supposedly tell from an online person or a person that has blocked you.

Really, my advice is just simply don't do anything that will make the other person block you. Or talk to them in real life if you think they have a problem with you.

you can try this trick (only windows live msn)

open a chatwindow to the person you think is online using offline status

say hello and send the message

when you receive the message' x is offline he will receive your message the next time he signs in' , the contact is really offline, if there's no message so he is online with offline status

when you know he's got webcam just look if the webcam icon is shown, if the contact is offline and you can see that cam icon he is online using offline status

I've added many more contacts before and since him but he is the only one that requires me to allow him to be added every single log in. Because it's a Microsoft product running on a Mac, it doesn't feature full support like it would running on windows. Webcam is one example.

There is no auto update on option to enable on LiveMessenger that I can see. I think it auto updates by itself, but if you want to be sure you have the latest version do this:

If you sign into your Windows live messanger account and go to your e-mails, there will be a message somewhere on the screen saying something like "you are currently using a old version of Windows Live Messanger...".

This message will only display if you are using the old one, if it is not there then it must mean it is up to date.

I use Mozilla Firefox and it's my default web browser and I use it to surf the net and it conveniently opens my yahoo mail account through Yahoo Messenger but when I try to get to my hotmail account through Windows Live Messenger, it opens in IE instead of Mozilla Firefox, why is that so?

For a more technical answer, you could run a packet sniffer (such as Wireshark) on your network and grab all the Messenger traffic as it flows across the network.

This method requires more work and a greater understanding than the previously mentioned options but it has the advantage of happening in real-time (as he types, you will see it, rather than having to wait), not requiring you to have access to his computer (if it's not a shared computer) and being completely undetectable.

Whatever method you choose to use, I might also recommend approaching the subject carefully with your nephew. He will most probably feel betrayed and you may lose a great deal of his trust if he thinks you are following around after him spying on what he does.

Windows Live Messenger is closely integrated with IE since Microsoft has to promote their web browser so WLM will always open pages in IE instead of Firefox, you can just do one thing add hotmail website on your firefox bookmarks toolbar folder and whenever you get new mails just go through that, that's the only way out, if there is any other way it would be known by the geeks and I ain't that. You can check this following question posted on Mozillazine Forum to get help if you want to talk to the real geeks and I am sending you a similar question I had asked there and it's replies. It opens in Explorer because both IE7 and Live Messenger are Microsoft-based systems. Naturally, they'd want to tie the two functions together.

The best way to change this would be to go into your Live Messenger preferences. I don't know whether an option exists for that, but if it does, change it so that the used browser is Firefox instead of IE7.

Norton antivirus "high risk" is coming up every few seconds now that ive downloaded window

I just downloaded Windows Live Messenger and a window saying "High Risk" from Norton Antivirus is coming up every ten seconds or so. It says "your computer is attempting to send private informaion over the internet"

How can I prevent this happen without deleting or turning off Norton Antivirus??

The other person might be using Windows Live Messenger.

So, there are always some compatibility issues. The 2 applications are different %26amp; works in different ways at software level. Moreover, these are running on 2 different serves: one Yahoo %26amp; other MSN.

Thus, few features are not supported %26amp; they will stay like this.

I have the paid version of ZoneAlarm on my new computer and it works great; I installed it first thing and have downloaded multiple programs from the internet, including Yahoo messenger, which I haven't had a problem with. However, I recently downloaded the newest version of Windows messenger and it won't let me log in! I've done all of the troubleshooting suggestions, including setting the messenger program as "trusted" under program control, but still no luck. There aren't even any program control popups from ZA when I attempt to sign on. I know it's not the ID because I can sign onto web messenger just fine. Is there anything I can do??

all firewalls have an "exceptions list" but may be called something else. in there click on windows live messenger so the firewall will allow it to connect to the internet.
Re-download The new messenger, put it in a temp file, uninstall the old one, then install the new one from the temp file.

If ZA doesn't ask to allow it when you do that then call ZA toll free tech support.

Personally ZA has more problems than eith Norton or Macafee. Do you have a router? If so never bother buying a f/w everything you need is in the routers.

i also had paid ver. of ZA which gave me the same type of problems - so switched to free version after sub. was over. To get around the problem of no pop ups allowed I pressed Ctrl/Alt keys then hit refresh button. This also worked when .pdf files wouldn't open. For spyware i use spybot search%26amp;destroy %26amp; Clean centre for security i use AVG - all freeware
